- December 2008
- This month is all about going back to basics for Steve:
retooling his query letter, rethinking his strategy for getting
a literary agent, re-soliciting agents who haven't responded.
Previously, his focus has been on selling Pardon the Mess
as a mystery. That's not working. Two additional fiction
categories are available: literary fiction and romance. That
opens up the agent market considerably. Steve's new target date
for securing representation is February 15th.
- November 2008
- Mr. Pantazis wanted one thing for Thanksgiving: a literary
agent. He got a turkey instead. After 3 months and 50 queries to
various agencies, he ended up at 21 unanswered solicitations and
29 rejections. It's definitely a tough market, the result of
decreased retail sales and increased new author inquiries. On a
positive note, Steve entered Writer's Digest's annual short story competition
with 8 shorts.
- October 2008 -
Steve brought the tally up to 45 agents in his quest for
representation. His original goal was to find an agent by the
end of October. No dice. At least he wasn't idle this month. He
joined FanStory.com and
FieldReport.com, two great sites for writers. He also
authored a couple new short stories for his upcoming
collection and entered 10 stories into various contests.
